Some Key Advantages of 2-1-1 Service
·
The 211
software will consolidate data Statewide, significantly increasing exposure for Health and
Human Service providers as well as increasing access for consumers throughout the entire
state of Pennsylvania. ·
Medical
professionals use 211 to find resources during discharge planning. ·
Data is
collected as calls are logged, including the area the caller is from, the need the caller
expressed, the actual or estimated age and sex of the caller, and which program(s) the
caller is referred to. This information allows
for real time assessment of the community needs as well as the resources available to
them. ·
Unmet needs
are also recorded on 211. This data can be
used to decide assistance allocation, or to evaluate possible locations for service
centers. ·
211 frees up
the 911 lines by taking non-emergency disaster related calls. Giving information such as evacuation routes or
emergency shelter locations through 211 allows 911 to focus on police, fire, and medical
emergencies. ·
Impromptu
needs can be met more easily through 211. After
the recent floods in Pennsylvania, many local churches and civic groups collected clothing
and cleaning supplies or organized work parties. 211
will connect these temporary resources with their neighbors in need. ·
211 can assist
Public Health authorities evaluating outbreaks of disease.
211 utilizes a data collection system that can provide early warning of
disease. ·
In the event
of an epidemic, 211 can be used to give information such as how to get groceries while
quarantined, as was done during the SARS epidemic in Toronto. · 211 can help with rumor control. 211 is a trusted source the public can turn to for information during actual or rumored events such as nuclear power plant failures.
